Calling #8, um, I mean #24

Kobe Bryant has changed his jersey number from 8 to 24. Why? A few of the reasons in circulation:

Sentimental factor

Bryant has said he wore 24 in high school, before switching to 33. The move to 24, he said, signals the beginning of the second leg of his career.

Revenge factor

According to ESPN, Adidas is planning to re-release Bryant's first sneaker, the KB8, and rename it the Crazy 8. But Bryant now works for Nike. What will the number change do to the Crazy 8?

Subtraction by addition

Bryant reportedly wore 8 because it was the sum of the digits of his number at Adidas' ABCD Camp -- 143 -- when he was in high school. Another way to distance himself from Adidas?

Or, it might simply be Bryant's way of one-upping Michael Jordan.
