OSD Talk Show: Ep. 143: 3-Year Anniversary Show

When the OSD Talk Show was created 3-years ago, little did I know that a simple, albeit more complicated than it sounds, Internet talk show, dedicated to the people that like sneakers ALOT, would motivate others to express their passion for wearing and talking about kicks! 

Looking back now, I shouldn't have thought otherwise, but with the creation of magazines such as Sneaker Freaker, Sole Collector, Kicksclusive, Sneaker Marmalade and countless other publications that I'm not aware of, the footwear industry is always changing.  As long as people have feet, there is going to be a need for shoes and, especially, sneakers!

In this episode, we discuss sneaker news such as Sonny Vaccaro returning to claim the summer basketball crown and his pending deal with Li Ning, along with Usain Bolt renewing his contract with Puma until 2013.

Also, we're joined by GLC of G.O.O.D. Music and listen as he talks kicks, his new distribution deal and what he and others are doing to stop youth violence in Chicago.  Chuuch!

Houston, Texas - When the H-Town Sneaker Summit started over six years ago there were no ‘sneaker boutiques’ in Houston, TX, only mall stores and a couple of ‘mom and pops’. Little did they know over the next several years along with the growth of their bi-annual event, the H-Town Sneaker Summit community would witness the development of a burgeoning sneaker scene that would become recognized the world over. This included the edition of several highly regarded boutiques in the Southwest including; Premium Goods, and the addition of not one, but two House Of Hoops in Houston, as well as the new Nice Kicks Shop in nearby Austin. Throughout Reggie’s life he and his friends watched their dreams come true. Finally the shoes that they long hunted for by surfing the web or making cold calls were now close at hand. They also saw the release of several Houston and Texas themed shoes with two recent NBA All Star Games in Houston and Dallas respectively. Being a huge Air Force 1 Aficionado, Reggie also got the chance to meet two of his heroes through the recent H-Town Sneaker Summits who shared his same passion; DJ Clark Kent and Bobbito Garcia. To keep Reggie a part of the event that he helped promote and participated in for years, H-Town Sneaker Summit will be holding their very first silent auction in Reggie’s name to raise money for charity and help other kids watch their dreams come true. This very first auction will be for a special pair of shoes created specifically for one of Reggie’s favorite basketball players. This Sunday the H-Town Sneaker Summit will be holding a special silent auction for a pair of Yao Ming Player Exclusive ATR Elite Reebok Basketball Sneakers donated by the Houston Rockets. The Holloway family asks that all proceeds from this auction be donated to the Make A Wish Foundation Of The Texas Gulf Coast in Reggie’s name .

Reebok ZigTech: Bill McInnis talk ZigTech on OSD

On Episode 121 of the OSD Talk Show, we were joined by Bill McInnis, the Head of Advanced Innovation at Reebok; point-blank, he is that DUDE behind the new Reebok ZigTech sneakers.

Bill is responsible for the creation and positioning of technology with a focus on consumer benefit, function and price.

Having joined Reebok in 1994, as a strategic planning manager, Bill worked hard and climbed the corporate ladder at Reebok to be promoted to Director of the Running category, where he was responsible for creating and marketing Reebok running products such as the DMX-line.

To simply write that Bill is smart is an understatement, the man spent 4-years working with NASA on the space shuttle program.

Bill holds an M.B.A. from UCLA in Los Angeles (CA) and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University in Medford(MA).

Listen to the interview as Bill breaks down the lead-up to the current Zig Pulse technology and what runners, basketball players and sneakerheads alike can expect from Reebok and the Zig Pulse technology, aptly dubbed an "Energy Drink for your Feet."

Official H-Town Sneaker Summit Winter '10 Event Photo ReCap

The H-Town Sneaker Summit recently wrapped up the sixth 'winter edition' of their bi-annual event in Houston, Texas. The event is the largest and longest
running of it's kind in the entire south west, and brings out sneaker
enthusiast from all walks of life. The event hosts local boutiques,
brands, sneaker enthusiasts, and collectors in a large and diverse party environment.
This season attendees were greeted with the likes of Special Guests;
Bobbito Garcia and Levi Maestro. Other notables in attendance were well known south west sneaker ambassedors; Bun B of UGK, and Greg Street from Atlanta, GA.

Levi Maestro has taken the world by storm with his viral internet video
show 'Maestro Knows'. In just a short time this young videographer/director has
worked with and documented a wide and diverse group of many industry pillars such as; Mr Cartoon, Warren G, 9th Wonder, Terry Kennedy, Geoff Rowley, and the Nike Campus, among others. Fans worldwide have been requesting that Maestro produce a tee shirt to express their love for his hit show. At this very event Levi Maestro kicked off a world wide tour with the premier release of his very first 'Maestro Knows' tee. The MK13 tee was made available to fans at the H-Town Sneaker Summit before anywhere else.

And what more can be said about the legendary Bobbito Garcia, a true renaissance man! Bobbito has been wildly successful at almost anything he touches all over the map; DJ Extraordinaire, Professional Basketball Player, and an Original Sneaker Connoisseur are just a few of the things he is well known worldwide for. Bobbito meeted and greeted fans at the H-Town Sneaker Summit before stepping up to the wheels of steel to successfully shut the party down with one of his legendary DJ mixes.

Bun B of UGK loyally represents for his hometown crowd at what seems to be every H-Town Sneaker Summit. At this seasons summit Bun displayed his usual but new collection of rare and yet to be released shoes. However Bun had a secret in store for the crowd at the end of the event, as he gave away almost every pair of shoes on his display table! Not only that but on the way to the venue Bun and Maestro stopped by the Chris Paul in store event at the nearby House Of Hoops Northline in Houston. There they picked up all three colorways of Chris' newest signature shoes (the Air Jordan CP3.III) all blessed with Chris' autograph, and then gave them away at the Sneaker Summit! You might want to stay tuned to Maestro Knows for more on this adventure soon!

Once again fans came from far a wide came to participate and witness a community based event like no other. The event somehow tops itself each and every time, and we have come to the conclusion that it is because of the new and old like minded and passionate people that loyally attend each season. The H-Town Sneaker Summit was founded in December of 2003. It is a Bi-Annual Event held in Houston, TX each Summer and Winter, where sneaker enthusiast from all walks of life gather to buy, sell, trade, display, browse, and discuss rare and exclusive sneakers and clothing in a large party atmosphere. Our past few events have each held over one thousand people including local celebrities such as NBA Players; Rafer Alston, Maurice Taylor, and Clarence Weatherspoon, Music Artists; Bun B of UGK, Slim Thug, and Wine-O, MTV’s ABDC Finalist; SoReal Cru, and former Running Back of the Houston Texans, Johnathan Wells.

We also have a large following of people who travel from all over Texas; Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and even Louisiana and beyond to loyally attend each event. As the sneaker, apparel, and accessories market keeps growing, we continue expect a bigger crowd with every event. We constantly strive to make each event better than the last.

So Allen Iverson a/k/a/ AI a/k/a/ The Answer, finally got himself some Answer XIIs in a Pistons colorway! Look for AI to be rocking these bad boys tonight as the Pistons play host to the Boston Celtics.

Whether or not he starts or comes off-the-bench, that's a question that we won't know until gametime. Until then, AI is Walking GOOD!

Snitchin' Sneakers

You know the saying, "You can tell alot about a person by what they wear on their feet"? Well, it's so true and something that sneaker aficionados pay attention to "all day.....everyday".
Oftentimes, we walk around with our head turned downward not because we're lacking confidence, rather we're observing what people are wearing on their feet. The choice of footwear someone chooses in the morning says alot about how they think their day may play out.

Well, Rafael Castillo, 20-years old, of Norwalk, Connecticut chose to steal a SUV and take the vehicle for a little spin, while wearing a pair of Reebok sneakers. What he didn't know was that once he was being chased and had to jump out the ride and make a run from the police, his sneakers would be be the snitch.

Norwalk Police chased Rafael and noticed in the process that his footprints bore a Reebok logo. The police followed the Reebok-clad footprints to a chain link fence that separated two houses. There they found Rafael on the stairs. "He was trying to make himself invisible," Norwalk Police Lt. Paul Resnick said.

So, the next time you plan on committing a crime, pay special attention to your choice of footwear. They just might be the Snitch in your crew.

Maeda heads to RISD

When word got out in June that John Maeda would become the 16th President of Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), many thoughts crossed my mind, such as the man is a legend when it comes to graphic designs, computer technology and as an educator.

Maeda's work at MIT since 1996, saw him manage relationships with over 60 industrial organizations that partnered with the MIT Media Lab. His digital media design work is a permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art.

Again, a legendary man during these times of emerging technology but he's big on embracing the "human factor.

When Maeda is inaugurated on September 12th at the First Baptist Church in Providence next week, he will become the first college or university President to have designed a pair of sneakers that many sneakerheads have placed highly on their "holy grail" list.

The Reebok x Maeda sneakers, aptly dubbed the "Timetanium, featured the Reebok Ventilator with original designs from Maeda's original mathematic algorithms and computer codes. The interior lining of the Timetanium reflects the complexity of this process, with the original, hand-written calculations by Maeda, printed on the lining and insoles.

Well, it sure looks like the #1 stunna is bitin' a bit from Reebok these days with the so called Nike Women's Aerofit High.

One look at them and it's not hard to see that many cues were take from the Reebok Freestyle aka 5411s:
