Reebok ZigTech: Bill McInnis talk ZigTech on OSD

On Episode 121 of the OSD Talk Show, we were joined by Bill McInnis, the Head of Advanced Innovation at Reebok; point-blank, he is that DUDE behind the new Reebok ZigTech sneakers.

Bill is responsible for the creation and positioning of technology with a focus on consumer benefit, function and price.

Having joined Reebok in 1994, as a strategic planning manager, Bill worked hard and climbed the corporate ladder at Reebok to be promoted to Director of the Running category, where he was responsible for creating and marketing Reebok running products such as the DMX-line.

To simply write that Bill is smart is an understatement, the man spent 4-years working with NASA on the space shuttle program.

Bill holds an M.B.A. from UCLA in Los Angeles (CA) and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University in Medford(MA).

Listen to the interview as Bill breaks down the lead-up to the current Zig Pulse technology and what runners, basketball players and sneakerheads alike can expect from Reebok and the Zig Pulse technology, aptly dubbed an "Energy Drink for your Feet."

Kicks: Nike Air Trainer 1

Whenever a new sneaker is released I go through a couple thought
processes: (1) Do I like the shoes?; (2) What are the technical
features of the shoes?, and (3) Are the shoes worth the retail price?

Well, when I saw the Nike Air Trainer 1s, in the classic grey, black
and green colorway, I said these shoes are "Fresh".

I almost ordered a pair from Eastbay because I knew better than to
search in vain for a pair in my 'hood, in my size 14.

So, on my recent trip to Beaverton, it paid off that I was patient and
I was able to pick-up these bad boys at the employee store.

Having worn them a couple times, I have to say that not only do the
Air Trainer 1s look "Fresh", but they are some of the most comfortable
sneakers, I've bought in a long time, fresh-out-the-box.

The sneakers are lightweight and the placement of the Flywire is just
enoughto let you know that it's there to keep the foot from over-
pronating.

The Free-outsole makes for a great fit and works with your foot,
rather than some sneakers which seem to fight your feet and force them
into submission.

Suffice to say, I'm now hunting for the classic-colorway in a size
14.

If you're a relatively new 'sneakerhead' then you have some homework to do, but Chris Vidal has been on his grind within sneaker circles for more than a hot minute.

To say that Chris has used kicks as his entree' to meet people and travel the world, would be an understatement. The man has been on The Tyra Banks Show talking about his Obsessive Sneaker Disorder and actually gave up buying sneakers for a week.



In yesterday's Entertainment section of the New York Daily News, Chris Vidal is highlighted as one of New York's zaniest collectors.

OSD: The Company:

OSD-Obsessive Sneaker Disorder is a multimedia company that specializes in news covering the footwear industry and the people that collect, obsess, and search for sneakers. Due to the increasing use of the Internet, OSD has been able to connect sneaker enthusiasts from various corners of the world with other like-minded ‘sneakerheads’ to discuss the latest sneaker releases, trends, brands and the impact that sneakers have on people.

OSD Video Channels:

The OSD Internet video channels were launched on Thursday, July 31, 2008, with anticipation and an Internet buzz that garnered an immediate reaction from the sneakerhead community. www.o-s-d.tv & www.wosd.tv.

The OSD channels quickly became the key video channels for sneaker aficionados and trendsetters to watch what was taking place in cities such as Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Miami and Houston, to name a few.

OSD video channels offer unique features such as the ability to mix multiple live cameras, imported videos clips, and overlay graphics, and now RSS Feed updates.

OSD Ambassador Program Overview:

The OSD Ambassador Program (OSDAP) enlists sneaker personalities and enthusiasts from around the United States and the world to cover the sneaker-scene, from their perspective and on their community, all-the-while allowing their personality to shine through.

The video footage must be filmed (mini-DV or Hard Drive) and edited by the Ambassador. If you need help with the editing, we'll hook you up! Footage will be featured on on one or both OSD video channels— www.o-s-d.tv and www.wosd.tv.

We, OSD, offers the Ambassador full control of the content and stories. We simply ask that the footage is filmed with a 1-chip, or ideally 3-chip, video camcorder where the visual footage is clear and the audio is of good quality and able to be heard clearly.

OSD will provide an FTP (file transfer protocol) website for uploading the video footage to.

Once the videos have been added to the OSD programming, an email will be sent to the Ambassador notifying him/her when the programming is “live” on one or both OSD channels.

Why should I become an OSD Ambassador?

Because this is a great way to get you film career off the ground by documenting a topic that has far reaching interests.

Because what film-maker or reporter new or old wouldn’t want to submit content to their core audience knowing that it will be viewed and appreciated?

Because the OSD Ambassador Program allows you to connect with other like-minded people that are some of the sneaker culture’s premiere personalities and business people. Being an OSD Ambassador may assist you in creating other business ventures that may or may not be sneaker-related.

Lastly, but certainly not least, because everyone needs an outlet for expressing their love for sneakers. We’ve created it, so why not use it? If you don’t, someone else will. Believe that!

Nike AF1 ID x Laser P: The Dee Wells Born Day Sneaker...

This past Tuesday was the Birthday for the one and only Dee Wells of OSD. Those of you who know Dee "Sole Proprietor" Wells know he's as cool as the AC in a Bentley, and surprising him is a task that should come with medical benefits. With that said, I set out to catch him completely OFF GUARD with a gift he would NEVER see coming. I coordinated the efforts with my OSD Crew (World Famous), Mayor (Air Force 1 Aficionado), and Laser P (2nd coming of Mark Smith), and I set out for 21 Mercer Street (NYC) to design the perfect AF1...for Dee! Here are the pictures, and below them the story behind each phase. WALK GOOD!

The Design Inspiration: Flag of the U.S. Virgin Islands...

The colors on these sneakers are inspired very simply by the colors of Dee's native U.S.V.I. (United Stated Virgin Islands). All of the colors from the flag for his lovely Caribbean homeland are used on the sneaker (except the color from the top of the shield on the flag). It took me a short while to put the colors together in a way that will make instant sense to Dee when he opened the box, but I think I got it.

I always knew that I wanted to make sure the sneakers had an above average touch to them. I remembered a conversation between Mayor and I where he showed me the work of one Laser P. It was very clean and accurate...I was hooked! BUT, when was I gonna have a pair of shoes done that would require his services? BINGO...Here it was! Mayor promptly shipped the shoes to Laser P. On OSD, the catch phrase started by Dee and that is now a regular part of our lingo and correspondence with the rest of the sneaker world is "WALK GOOD". So I figured, what better way to express that without saying it? Put it on the front of his shoes. The font, sizing, and placement of the phrase on the shoes could not have been better. Props to Laser P . I'm sure as more people see this your phone will begin ringing.

I think we got the drop on him y'all! Final Destination: Worcester, MA...

Upon arrival to Dee, He was completely floored! To Mrs. OSD,...no, we did not make you look bad. The goal was to make sure when he's out and about with you and your daughter, the world knows you are in the company of a man that knows exactly how to "Walk Good!". We classed him up for you (LOL).

The sneaker was indeed a project that was a labor of love and I'm happy with every step of the process. I'm sure the OSD Crew, Mayor, and Laser P are happy to have been a major part of it too.

So, as Dee would say, keep your laces tied tightly, your tongues loose, and.... You know the rest. Just look at the front of Dee's shoes...
