Shoelebrity: Chris Vidal

If you're a relatively new 'sneakerhead' then you have some homework to do, but Chris Vidal has been on his grind within sneaker circles for more than a hot minute.

To say that Chris has used kicks as his entree' to meet people and travel the world, would be an understatement. The man has been on The Tyra Banks Show talking about his Obsessive Sneaker Disorder and actually gave up buying sneakers for a week.

In yesterday's Entertainment section of the New York Daily News, Chris Vidal is highlighted as one of New York's zaniest collectors.

Be sure to read Chris's feature! Walk GOOD!

OSD: Episode 83: Woody of Sneaker Freaker Mag & CNN Sneakerhead article

The OSD Crew is joined by Woody, Founder and Editor-in-Chief, of Australian-based Sneaker Freaker Magazine, and if you haven't read Sneaker Freaker Magazine then it's time to hit your local bookstore and pick-up issue 15.

Woody gives us the low down on Sneaker Freaker, why he started the magazine and how they remain on point. To say that they're focused, would be an understatement!

In the second half of the show, hear as we discuss the CNN article entitled,"'Sneakerheads' pay big bucks for rare kicks".

Is there a responsibility on the behalf of sneakerheads to educate someone that is wearing a pair of fake sneakers? What do you think? Email us with your comments at ObsessiveSneakerDisorder@gmail.com or post your comment for others to read.

We're back at it again next week for Episode 84 and, as usual, you never know who'll drop by the show to talk kicks and culture!

Ryz Up: Interactive Sneaker Design

Following the phenomenon of the collaborative and interactive entertainment ground breakers- American Idol, Wikipedia, and Threadless- RYZ launches an interactive design space where participants are invited to create their very own footwear.

Founded by footwear industry veteran Rob Langstaff, former President of Adidas America and Adidas Japan, RYZ is a progressive, web-based and social-community sourced footwear design brand. It provides an online platform whereby consumers can have their unique sneaker design ideas brought to life via internet-based design competitions and community-based voting.

Consumers log on to RYZ, download a template of a high-top canvas shoe, add graphic applications, and then upload the template to te RYZ site. Each competition remains open for a four-week period; once closed, the designs are voted on by the web community with the help of an elite industry artist panel-- Saint Agnes of Worship Worthy, David Gensler, President of The Keystone Design Unit (KDU), and Chris Vidal the Shoelebrity and a well-respected member of OSD, who will provide feedback on design submissions. The winning design gets produced with the designer awarded $1,000 plus a $1 royalty for each pair sold.

“We are excited to provide a stage for young designers to showcase their creativity, and allow the real trendsetters to dictate what gets produced," says Langstaff.

The first winning shoe design to be featured and sold on the site was selected last week through a Portland-based design competition that paid homage to the fact that Portland is considered ‘sneaker universe’ to many (Nike and Adidas make their home in the area). Over 150 artists, designers, musicians, sneakerheads and young professionals converged to celebrate the launch of RYZ.

Jason Ehlers, a well-known graffiti artist from Portland, otherwise known as ‘Caveman’, was the winning designer with his unique shoe design titled, ‘The Creep.’

Heard Dis?

It was only a matter of time for 50 Cent to make a remix for I Get Money and here it is.

Cats in New York City call this the Forbes Remix because Forbes.com's unveiled their "Hip Hop Cash Kings" list, which featured Jay-Z, 50 Cent and Diddy in the 1,2,3 spots, respectively.

Absolut New Orleans

If you not a big drinker, you may have missed this new marketing campaign that Absolut is doing to raise funds to benefit the City of New Orleans (aka the REAL "LA").

Now, it might strike some people as odd that Absolut Vodka is raising funds for NO, but you know what, in this day and age, New Orleans is still in bad shape and in desperate need for more funds.

I write firsthand that my family in NO is still trying to 'get right' and it's been tough getting money from the insurance company, FEMA (aka Find Every Mexican Available to rebuild the Crescent City), and the State of Louisiana.

I look forward to tasting this mango with black pepper vodka!

Absolut New Orleans is a limited edition one-off product that sports a taste of mango and a spicy kick, designed to evoke the flavor and vibrancy of the southern city. The bottle features an image of a harmonica, reflecting the musical culture that has defined the city, which, just under two years ago, was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Absolut New Orleans vodka will be introduced Wednesday afternoon at Tales of the Cocktail, an annual New Orleans gathering of more than 10,000 cocktail drinkers, mixers and manufacturers.

The vodka is a limited run of 35,000 cases - 3 1/2 times the company’s total U.S. sales in 1979.

The product is in the tradition of Absolut’s old city-themed campaign–but in this case it’s not just about a city, but for it, as well. All profits from Absolut New Orleans will be put toward revitalization efforts throughout the Gulf region. Among the charities that will benefit are Habitat for Humanity, which is playing a key role in the region’s reconstruction, and the Louisiana Restaurant Association, which is helping local eateries bounce back and continue to provide the cuisine for which the area is so famous.
