Reebok ZigTech: Bill McInnis talk ZigTech on OSD

On Episode 121 of the OSD Talk Show, we were joined by Bill McInnis, the Head of Advanced Innovation at Reebok; point-blank, he is that DUDE behind the new Reebok ZigTech sneakers.

Bill is responsible for the creation and positioning of technology with a focus on consumer benefit, function and price.

Having joined Reebok in 1994, as a strategic planning manager, Bill worked hard and climbed the corporate ladder at Reebok to be promoted to Director of the Running category, where he was responsible for creating and marketing Reebok running products such as the DMX-line.

To simply write that Bill is smart is an understatement, the man spent 4-years working with NASA on the space shuttle program.

Bill holds an M.B.A. from UCLA in Los Angeles (CA) and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University in Medford(MA).

Listen to the interview as Bill breaks down the lead-up to the current Zig Pulse technology and what runners, basketball players and sneakerheads alike can expect from Reebok and the Zig Pulse technology, aptly dubbed an "Energy Drink for your Feet."

In the second half of the show, hear as we discuss the CNN article entitled,"'Sneakerheads' pay big bucks for rare kicks".

Is there a responsibility on the behalf of sneakerheads to educate someone that is wearing a pair of fake sneakers? What do you think? Email us with your comments at ObsessiveSneakerDisorder@gmail.com or post your comment for others to read.

We're back at it again next week for Episode 84 and, as usual, you never know who'll drop by the show to talk kicks and culture!

PF Flyers Astor: New for Summer 09 (July)

For those of you that know me, then you know for well over 2 decades my feet stay laced in only 4 brands mostly. If it wasn't Nike (which includes Jordan Brand), Adidas, Puma, or Converse then it probably wasn't me.

Lately, I've been far more adventurous in my footwear choices, so today's sneaker, WELL WORTHY of the discussion are from PF Flyers....Yes I said it, PF Flyers! Thanks to my homie Louis Colon (Kicksclusive Magazine) who now holds it down for the folks over at the "Posture Foundation" (that is what the PF in PF Flyers stands for- That much I DID know in advance).

Lou sent me the "Astor" model from the 2009 "Cloudbreak" Collection in black with a white mid sole, that features a white and Lime Green outsole. The sneaker screams "rock these right now"! It has 2 different types of leather which have very durable quality. Most notably the tumbled full grain Goat leather (Yes- I said Goat) looks very sturdy yet comfortable. The sneaker also features Italian beaded leather on the sides which gives the sneaker a "Lux" look. The sneakers have the world famous mid-sole to sole make up that PF Flyers are known for (Have you ever seen anyone wearing PF Flyers slip and fall?- I thought not).

The laces are waxed cotton which have become pretty favorable on certain Nike Air Force 1 releases as of late. They work very well on this sneaker. The sneaker has a strap which goes across the top of your feet, but in a very non-forceful yet stylish way. The strap is there, it works, but you don't feel it doing it's job. The padded tongue reminds me of the old bubble vests that made a come back this past winter. The bubble vest type design is also used on the back portion of the sneaker from the ankle down to the mid sole area. It works well on this sneaker.

Not that anyone will see it, but the insole was also stylishly designed. It forced me to give it a 2nd look so that I could appreciate the creativity that was put into it. It's a very nice touch.

THE JEAN FACTOR (or TJF) There are a lot of very stylish sneakers being released that look good in pictures or worn for the actual sport/activity that they were made for, but then the sneaker looks bad with jeans. The Astor was definitely designed with the jean factor (TJF) in mind. As pictured above, I had NO PROBLEM making this sneaker work with a pair of classic fit LRG jeans. I also made the sneaker work with a couple of other cuts of denim with ease.

So lastly, this sneaker is a very welcomed addition to my sneaker closet that I'm honest enough to admit was not on my radar for purchase prior to yesterday. Look out for it's release in July of 2009 where PF Flyers are currently sold. No word yet on the retail price. I hope to have an update soon.

Those of you who know the OSD Crew should not be surprised if an OSD version of this sneaker hits store shelves one day.

OSD Ambassador Program

OSD-Obsessive Sneaker Disorder

Ambassador Program

OSD: The Company:

OSD-Obsessive Sneaker Disorder is a multimedia company that specializes in news covering the footwear industry and the people that collect, obsess, and search for sneakers. Due to the increasing use of the Internet, OSD has been able to connect sneaker enthusiasts from various corners of the world with other like-minded ‘sneakerheads’ to discuss the latest sneaker releases, trends, brands and the impact that sneakers have on people.

OSD Video Channels:

The OSD Internet video channels were launched on Thursday, July 31, 2008, with anticipation and an Internet buzz that garnered an immediate reaction from the sneakerhead community. www.o-s-d.tv & www.wosd.tv.

The OSD channels quickly became the key video channels for sneaker aficionados and trendsetters to watch what was taking place in cities such as Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Miami and Houston, to name a few.

OSD video channels offer unique features such as the ability to mix multiple live cameras, imported videos clips, and overlay graphics, and now RSS Feed updates.

OSD Ambassador Program Overview:

The OSD Ambassador Program (OSDAP) enlists sneaker personalities and enthusiasts from around the United States and the world to cover the sneaker-scene, from their perspective and on their community, all-the-while allowing their personality to shine through.

The video footage must be filmed (mini-DV or Hard Drive) and edited by the Ambassador. If you need help with the editing, we'll hook you up! Footage will be featured on on one or both OSD video channels— www.o-s-d.tv and www.wosd.tv.

We, OSD, offers the Ambassador full control of the content and stories. We simply ask that the footage is filmed with a 1-chip, or ideally 3-chip, video camcorder where the visual footage is clear and the audio is of good quality and able to be heard clearly.

OSD will provide an FTP (file transfer protocol) website for uploading the video footage to.

Once the videos have been added to the OSD programming, an email will be sent to the Ambassador notifying him/her when the programming is “live” on one or both OSD channels.

Why should I become an OSD Ambassador?

Because this is a great way to get you film career off the ground by documenting a topic that has far reaching interests.

Because what film-maker or reporter new or old wouldn’t want to submit content to their core audience knowing that it will be viewed and appreciated?

Because the OSD Ambassador Program allows you to connect with other like-minded people that are some of the sneaker culture’s premiere personalities and business people. Being an OSD Ambassador may assist you in creating other business ventures that may or may not be sneaker-related.

Lastly, but certainly not least, because everyone needs an outlet for expressing their love for sneakers. We’ve created it, so why not use it? If you don’t, someone else will. Believe that!

Know You Got Sole!

There hasn't been alot of noise these days in the land of sneakers. The truth is that many of the companies that "played it safe" are jumping in the fray 3-years too late and they're trying to play catch-up (New Balance & K-Swiss).

When I heard about the concept for the upcoming sneaker documentary- Know You Got Sole- I got very excited and now having seen just the trailer, I'm like a kid in a candy store that wants all the sweets. I'm going to have to find a temporary pacifier and calm myself as I wait for the full documentary.

In the meantime, take a look at the trailer:
